Great story Jesse. And I'm with you on the sound of the M1, but maybe that's because the era of reggae it represents it isn't my favourite. Can't beat the clanky sound of an old upright, something like Graduation In Zion. https://youtu.be/OGwDYZPCQ1A?si=vgRAnm0CbYuB7HnU

Thanks Rob. Same for me - the old, slightly out-of-tune pianos still sound the best to my ears. Since my first album, I'd used both a real upright piano by dad had (Petroff) and the Yamaha Motif 6 "Honky Tonk Piano" to try and re-create that vibe.

Nice knowing the gear behind the sounds of the songs we love. Here's a question does the vst plugin for this piano sound work as well as having the actual hardware? Been a keyboard player for half a century & even though I have used and bought plugins of keyboard instruments it's a question I always have.

I'd guess it is identical to the hardware version being 35+ years old. Korg has a plugin https://www.korg.com/us/products/software/kc_m1/

Love this! I'm not a producer or musician but I love the context to some of my favourite reggae and dancehall tunes.
