Welcome to a special mix exploring the universe of Psydub—a genre where dub reggae’s heavyweight bass meets psychedelic electronica’s spaced-out soul. This one-hour set draws from key artists and tracks that have helped shape the sound, making it a perfect companion for chill-out sessions, creative focus, or late-night journeys through your mind.

Origins of Psydub

Where it began:
Psydub is rooted in 1970s dub reggae, with pioneers like King Tubby, Lee “Scratch” Perry, and Scientist transforming the studio into an instrument by incorporating heavy reverb, echo, and phasers, resulting in hypnotic grooves centered around the drums and bass.

By the late 90s and early 2000s, producers from the psytrance and downtempo scenes began blending those dub techniques with ambient textures and global instruments. Labels like Twisted Records (home of Shpongle and Ott) and Interchill Records brought these sounds to a new generation.

What Psydub Sounds Like

Psydub is all about atmosphere. Expect:

  • Heavy, rolling basslines

  • Deep echo, delay, and reverb

  • Glitchy percussion and dub snares

  • Ambient pads and swirling synths

  • Ethereal samples and world instrument textures

It’s immersive, introspective, and grounded in rhythm—but always drifting into space.
